Picture of Dr. Tony Chiang

Hou-Hsien (Tony) Chiang, MD

he/him/his

Dr. Tony Chiang is one of our current Research Track Fellows.  He grew up in Taiwan, and completed his PhD in Molecular Biology at UC Berkeley.  After completing his Internal Medicine residency training at UC Davis in Sacramento, he moved to the University of Washington in 2021 for his Endocrinology Fellowship. His current research interest involves inpatient insulin dose modeling. He hopes to be able to predict insulin requirements on hospital admission in order to best optimize inpatient glycemic control.  His current mentors include Drs. Irl Hirsch and Steven Kahn.

Melbin Thomas, MD

Dr. Melbin Thomas is one of our current Research Track Fellows. After finishing medical school, she worked as a clinical research coordinator prior to starting her Internal Medicine residency at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. During her residency, she enjoyed the vast diversity of topics seen in endocrinology and thus chose to pursue her endocrinology fellowship at UW. Her research interest is in the field of obesity medicine.

Mara Y. Roth, MD

Dr. Mara Y. Roth is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Metabolism,Endocrinology, and Nutrition at the University of Washington, and Director of the Endocrine Tumor Program at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, Seattle, WA.  She received her undergraduate and medical degrees from Brown University, Providence, RI.  She completed residency in Internal Medicine and postgraduate fellowship in Metabolism, Endocrinology and Nutrition at the University of Washington.  She has a clinical practice focusing on endocrine tumors from diagnosis to long-term management, an active research program in thyroid cancer management and long-term patient outcomes, and she is actively involved in teaching of medical trainees, from medical students to practicing physicians.

Joshua Thaler, MD

Dr. Joshua Thaler is an Associate Professor in the Division of Metabolism and Endocrinology at the University of Washington and Associate Program Director of the UW Endocrine Fellowship Program.  He attends in general endocrinology and runs the Weight Disorders Clinic at Harborview Medical Center. Dr. Thaler is a physician scientist member of the UW Medicine Diabetes Institute whose research focuses on basic mechanisms underlying the regulation of body weight and glucose homeostasis. Specifically, his laboratory investigates the role of glial cells and inflammatory signaling in the pathogenesis of obesity and diabetes. 

Picture of Dr. Arthi Thirumalai

Arthi Thirumalai, MD 

she/her/hers

Dr. Arthi Thirumalai is a clinician and clinical researcher at the University of Washington, Seattle, WA, USA and the Section Head of Endocrinology at Harborview Medical Center. She sees patients with general endocrine disorders and diabetes, but also works in the Harborview Liver Clinic and Lipid Clinic at South Lake Union to see patients with specialized disorders. Her clinical research focuses on male contraception and clinical trials in diabetes and fatty liver disease.

Picture of Dr. Tracyl Tylee

Tracy Tylee, MD

she/her/hers

Dr. Tracy Tylee is an Associate Professor in the Division of Metabolism and Endocrinology at University of Washington and Program Director of the UW Endocrine Fellowship Program.  Her current clinical work is in management of thyroid disease, evaluation of thyroid nodules utilizing thyroid ultrasound and ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration, and management of low-risk thyroid cancer. Her research interests are focused on thyroid nodule evaluation, and treatment of Graves’ disease, and its effects on patient-centered outcomes. She is currently the program director for the UW Endocrine Fellowship.

Lorena Alarcon-Casas Wright, MD

Dr. Lorena Wright is clinical associate professor and is the Director of the UW LatinX Diabetes Clinic at the UW diabetes institute. She is also the Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion for the UW Division of Endocrinology.  Her clinical interests include diabetes and transgender care. Her current research focus on diabetes in vulnerable populations, assessing culturally tailored education programs, and access and use of diabetes technology in minority groups.  She is passionate about decreasing healthcare disparities, and is involved in efforts to reduce bias and increase diversity in healthcare, mentoring underrepresented students, and community outreach.
