Mission

The University of Washington Department of Medicine’s diversity mission is committed to addressing health inequities to deliver exceptional care and outcomes for every patient and community we serve. Achieving this requires a workforce that reflects the diversity of the patients and families in our care, including faculty, staff, and trainees from groups historically underrepresented in medicine. The department strives to foster learning, research, and clinical environments that are inclusive and equitable.

To align with these goals, the Division of Metabolism, Endocrinology and Nutrition offers:

  • Diverse training environments across three different medical centers serving the Puget Sound and WWAMI region.
  • Training opportunities for clinical trainees and postdoctoral fellows from all backgrounds.
  • Clinical training opportunities focused on different populations including diabetes in the Spanish-speaking community, transgender care, and endocrine management of the aging population.
  • Focus on improving patient care access and the patient care experience including improving access to Diabetes and Endocrine specialty care in the south end of Seattle and King County, which lacks sufficient endocrine providers.
  • Expanding telehealth services to improve access to care.
